Coaches Corner

Hello Athletes!

It is my extreme honor and great pleasure to welcome you to Team Hope 2010!

My name is Mary Ann Trusso and I will be a coach for the women's triathlon events this year.

If you have signed up, by now you should have received your Team Hope Training Packet. It contains a lot of important information. Inside the packet you will find 8 week training plans for beginner and advanced athletes, nutrition information, stretching information and more. All of this information is provided to you with the intention to help you to reach your triathlon goals. If you follow your plan, train smart, stay injury free and have fun you should be on your way to a great triathlon experience.

As you embark on your training, please remember that “consistency is key” when it comes to training – commit to the training and find ways to make it happen. Here is a great tip that I use to balance my work, 5 kids and my training: PLAN your workouts like you would other appointments. On Sunday night – look at the week ahead and PUT YOUR WORKOUTS ON YOUR CALENDAR. Regard them as “scheduled time” – this way you will not be trying to figure out your days every morning as you are getting ready for work or getting the kids ready for school.  If something comes up – move the “appointment” to where you can still fit it in. I promise you – this works!

As you look through the training packet, please email your designated coach with any questions you may have.

We are here for you – no question is too small! If you need motivation or encouragement please call us for that too! – We can arrange a phone call.

GO TEAM HOPE!

Coach Mary Ann Trusso

Mary Ann Trusso is a USA Triathlon Level I Coach, a Heartzones Personal Trainer and holds a bachelors degree in Psychology from Fordham University.

She began her coaching career in 1995 when she became a USA Rowing coach in Rochester, NY. A competitive rower and marathoner at the time, Mary Ann found a love for coaching as she developed and managed rowing clinics for rowers and coached athletes of all ages and abilities.

After moving to Illinois in 2002, Mary Ann first became involved in the Chicagoland running scene, worked as a Crisis Counselor for a non profit mental health agency and then participated in her first triathlon in 2005. Soon after she began competing in triathlons Mary Ann once again felt the urge to learn more about the sport and share her knowledge and passion with others. She became USA Triathlon Certified coach in 2008. Since then she has coached triathletes of all ages and abilities. She was also an integral part of the inception and development of the Drake University Triathlon team, helping the students to form the club, acting as their first official coach and still acting as a mentor to the athletes today.

Mary Ann continues to compete in triathlons and she is committed to providing individuals of all ages and abilities with opportunities to find heath, wellness and enjoyment through a healthy, active lifestyle.
